RE:Why Longruns days are numberedppp, you are so right about Renegade.
When I compared Renegade's share price prior to the takeover to the share price of Spartan shortly after the acquisition was completed, I estimated that the "implied" value of Renegade's assets had tripled.  Why were those assets suddenly worth much more?  Supposedly because some "smart oilman" had purchased them.

I think most of the analysts base their recommendations on the fund flows into and out of stocks.  
If institutions and funds are buying a particular stock, then it's a buy;  and if they are trimming or exiting positions, it's a sell.
