RE:bitumenMost of the cost of producing bitumen is associated with mining and cleaning the oil sands. Bitumen is fed into the coker. Once in the coker, the process to make SCO only requires energy from Natural gas. Guidance for SCO production cost is 46.80. It takes about 1 GJ of NG to make a barrel of SCO. So the price to make barrel of bitumen is between $35 and $40/bbl, after allowing for the 20% reduction in going from Bitumen to SCO. Note this is not the all in cost. You have to add in about another $10 for that. So what you are looing at is approximately $50 for bitumen vs $70 for SCO.
Note that Western Canada Select (WCS) which is a better grade of oil than Bitumen fetches around $55/bbl.
