Midwestern marks seven million man-hour HSE milestone

Midwestern Oil and Gas Company Limited in furtherance of its philosophy in health, safety and environmental (HSE) management and personnel motivation has celebrated the company’s seven million man-hours lost time injury free operation (LTI) in Lagos.

A similar celebration, according to a statement by the company, was held for the field personnel at the Umusadege field location in November.

Speaking on the development, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Midwestern Oil and Gas, Mr. Charles Odita, said that safety is the responsibility of all and with a proactive and enduring HSE culture which is key in the sustenance of the company’s performance, the company will achieve more milestones.

He commended the staff of the company for their purposeful pursuit in accomplishing the safety milestone of seven million man hours without any incident or injury, and advised all to strive to attain the next level which is eight million man- hour LTI free operations.

“As we award souvenirs and plaques of recognition and commendation to some of our personnel that contributed in making this happen, I charge every staff, especially supervisors, managers and more importantly, the HSE team to move HSE to the next level in our Joint Venture (JV) operations as we strive for more LTI free milestones” Odita enthused.

He also pledged the company’s readiness to continue to cooperate with the host communities, JV partners and also continue to improve on the health of the workers and their work-life balance.

Commenting on the award, the Head, Operations Support -Platform Petroleum Ltd, Mr. Isaac Yerokun commended the company for rewarding the outstanding Drivers.

Also speaking, Chief Operating Officer, Mart Energy, Mike Gutkoski explained that the achievement of seven million man hours without lost time incidents is a major milestone and a clear indication of commitment of management and staff towards high safety standards. He however, enjoined the company’s personnel to continue to strive for higher milestones.

The HSE Manager of Midwestern Oil and Gas, Mr. Anthony Okoye, attributed the feat to the commitment to safety by management, staff and contractors for incident-free workplace.

Okoye, while thanking his colleagues for the achievement, said the company will continue to improve on her HSE Management System implementation. He encouraged guests, staff and contractors to avail themselves of the free health check services provided by medical experts at the event.

A representative of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Mr. Success Ikpe congratulated Midwestern Oil and Gas for achieving the 7 Million Man-hours lost time injury free operation, adding that the company’s outstanding performance include the delivery of about 10 wells and wished the company more success as it continues in its stride to attain the 10 million man-hours LTI free operation.

Highlights of the occasion were the cutting of the cake to mark the celebration, award of plaques based on performance and recognition and a safety documentary to acquaint the management and staff with required safety standards and risk elements associated with exploration and production operations.

The awards cut across Midwestern Oil & Gas Company Ltd, and its joint venture partners, Suntrust Oil Company Nigeria Ltd. and Mart Energy Resource Ltd. HSE Awards were presented to staff and contractors under the following categories:- the Best MW-SOP (Unsafe Acts/Conditions) Reporter and Drivers with Best HSE records.

The Joint Venture (JV) HSE Recognition awards were received by Midwestern Oil & Gas Company Ltd, SunTrust Oil Company Nigeria Ltd and Mart Energy Resource Ltd.

The company’s previous momentous achievements were 6 Million LTI-free (Lost Time Injury) hours which was celebrated in November 2013 and also “Africa Oil & Gas HSE of the Year 2013 Award,” in South Africa in recognition of the company’s achievements in the area of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE).

Top management staff at the event include: Engr. Charles Odita, MD/CEO, Midwestern Oil and Gas Company Ltd., Mr. Ugo Okafor, President, Suntrust Oil Company Nig. Ltd., represented by Mrs. Rachael Akhuetie, GM, Finance and Admin., Suntrust Oil Company Ltd., Mr. Jagjit Arora, MD and Mr. Mike Gutkoski , Chief Operating Officer of Mart Energy Resources Ltd. respectively, Mr. Isaac Yerokun, Head, Operations Support, Platform Petroleum Ltd., Mr. Amarquaye Martey, JV GM Technical, Mr. David Adeoba, Assistant GM Finance, Mart Energy, Engr. Obiora Nwafor, Head of Production JV and Blessing Ayemhere, Financial Controller of Midwestern among others.

The company which is the operator of Umusadege Oil 56 facility OML (Oil Mining Lease) with a proactive and enduring Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) culture hosted the event as a way to say thank you to all her staff and contractors for achieving this feat and also the host communities for providing the enabling environment
