If that were to occur, it would a tremendous amount of pressure on gold. Worst case scenario for gold, is that the yearly production is but a small % of the total stock of gold above ground. All gold ever mind is still there and available for sale at the right price, so even if mines provide no supply, one could say that theoretically gold could still be sold if somehow there is a collective (if not insane) agreement that it's not worth as much as it's trading at (unlike silver which is mostly no longer available once it's used for industrial uses.).
