I study in nanotechnology and I can tell you this, even though there are better alternatives than copper like nanofibers and optics for information distribution, in the end, those are overly expensive to manufacture. Therefore, copper will still rule the infrastructure and technology sectors for awhile and then some. Demand will always be there. Especially with China and India on the rise.
