RE:This is a Soros scenario:

RE:This is a Soros scenario:I believe the problem must be seen on opposite terms: Ukraine needs Europe to help them with their energy imports.

In case you are not aware, many European countries don't need any Russian gas (Portugal, Spain), others buy it for legacy reasons, (i.e., Ukraine, of course), but are trying to move away from Russia, such as the Baltic countries (Poland, Lithuanaia, Latvia and Estonia).

Some still face some degree of dependency for economic/political reasons: Germany, Italy, France...but one has to wonder how that will evolve in light of the Ukrainian war.

Finally, some Eastern countries, namely Bulgaria and Romania, are still very dependent, but there is a concerted effort to create alternative sources of supply.

When the dust settles, one the main consequences of the conflict is that Russia will very likely have lost a significant share of the European natural gas market, and will be stuck with a lot of empty pipelines, some fairly new. A long-term sanction for Russia.
