Analysing Today's EIA Report

Analysing Today's EIA ReportBelow are the critical numbers that are needed to assess the inventory build in today's EIA report.

Inventory change is “Oil in minus Oil out” of storage.  Using line numbers 1, 4, 13, 14 and 10 shows how those lines combine to give the stock change.  1+4 is the “input” and 10 is the out to the refineries.  The interesting number is (13) Adjustments.  This number is required to make up the difference between the daily “in” and the “out” oil flow rates times 7 to balance with the reported weekly increase/change in inventory.

Essentially it is assumed that the inventory numbers are more accurate than the daily “in” and “out” numbers.

Note the 400 kb/d increase in adjustments for this week, seems out of line with the previous weeks.
