The Vancouver Sun reports in its Thursday edition a B.C. government investigation into the Mount Polley mine disaster is narrowing in on the mistakes made between mine owner Imperial Metals and its engineers, says Mines Minister Bill Bennett. The Sun's Rob Shaw quotes Mr. Bennett as saying Wednesday the government would accept all recommendations made Jan. 30 in a report by an independent review panel, which blamed design failure as the cause of the Aug. 4 collapse in the mine's tailings dam. Two separate investigations continue, which Mr. Bennett said should be completed by June. "Obviously, if you read the report there were mistakes made. We don't know if there were mistakes that the engineers are entirely responsible for, or the company is entirely responsible for, or if they are both responsible for the mistakes that were made," Mr. Bennett said, adding he is "quite sure" the matter will end up in litigation between the company and the various engineering firms. The head office of Imperial Metals, as well as engineering firms AMEC and BGC, were recently raided by authorities. Opposition leader John Horgan on Wednesday questioned Premier Christy Clark about government's lack of oversight on the mine.

And, according to the December audit report on BGM's QR tailing facility, BGM is disposing of its waste by running it into the QR underground mine!!!
So much for getting ore out of that resource. Have to provide the miners with aqualungs and flippers. Wonder what Kinross thinks about their gold royalty being underwater?
