The short position is almost irrelevant, in my opinion, as I assume it will be covered by the private placement shares.

In other words: many of the private placement investors - lined up well in advance of the announcement - sold the stock short at prices above the private placement price, and will invest the proceeds in the new shares being offered, and then cover the short position with the new shares, and will keep the warrants for further gains.

This thing should move when the private placement closes.
