Colombia's peace talksCopy paste from another board:
"FARC-EP is largely respecting a unilateral ceasefire. Colombia has announced that it has halted aerial bombing campaigns against FARC for one month. The USA has nominated an envoy to monitor the talks in Havana--a gesture received favorably by both the state and the national liberation fighters.
President Santos apparently intends to switch out the current defence minister in order to get a 'tone' more conducive to peace.
President Santos has also appointed a Super Commission of political, business, military and labor leaders who will advise him in the final stages of the peace process. Some have figured among his harshest critics.
Polls are showing growing support among Colombians for the peace process.
President Santos said last year that coming to peace with FARC was akin to 'swallowing toads'. If you have ever watched a dog foam at the mouth after mouthing a toad, you get an idea of the power of the expression.
In the collective sense, we could be on the cusp of swallowing toads. If that happens, Colombian equity values will climb. All companies, particularly resource companies will benefit. The Colombian economy will easily outperform all others in Latin America.
Petroamerica Oil, Gran Tierra Energy both with producing assets in the Putumayo should benefit more than others. Ecopetrol owns most of the country's pipeline network and thus should also benefit more than others.
The real prize might come from investing in something levered to domestic consumption which should respond positively to peace."
