RE:RE:RE:the Indian possibility

Go figure, Harper & the gang had samosas on the way to the Taj Mahal in Nov 2012.

“ However, there are more optimistic signals that an impasse on another front — export of nuclear materials and expertise — could be hammered out.

Canada and India signed a nuclear cooperation agreement two years ago (in 2010) but implementation of the deal has been hung up over Canada’s demands to be able to verify how that uranium is used. The suspicion stems from the 1970s when Canadian uranium was used in an Indian nuclear weapons test. The Indians say they report to the International Atomic Energy Agency and balk at any additional oversights imposed by Canada.

“We are concerned about where Canadian nuclear material goes,” Beck told reporters. “You don’t want your material diverted. That’s fundamentally why we’re trying to come up with a reporting approach that will assure us.

“My sense is that people can be flexible, people can be creative,” Beck said, giving some hope that an agreement can be hammered out. ”
