One step forward for the negotiations with FARC

One step forward for the negotiations with FARCDidier Reynders welcomes the agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC on demining
.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders welcomes the agreement of 7 March between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on a joint pilot demining project. This is a decisive step in the Colombian peace process. Belgium chairs the 14th Assembly of States Parties to the Ottawa Convention banning anti-personnel mines.

Belgium was the first country in the world to ban landmines  and welcomes the sense of responsibility of the Colombian parties, as well as the role of the international negotiators.

More than 11.000 Colombians, including more than 1.000 children, were victims of mines and other explosive devices scattered over more than 60% of local municipalities through the country. With this significant agreement in Havana, the fight against landmines takes another dimension. It will allow a better life for many Colombians.
