Be careful about scamYellow Pages Warns of Increased Activity by Fraudulent Companies
.
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - April 9, 2015) - Yellow Pages, a leading digital media and marketing company, is warning businesses across Canada of a recent increase in solicitations for advertising by companies who are fraudulently representing themselves as Yellow Pages.
The scam involves: a request to fill out a form with an "update" to business information or a person(s) representing themselves as Yellow Pages who request business information and a signature from business owners. One such company operates as "Yellow Holdings Ltd." - it uses the supplied information to send business owners a fake invoice for a specified amount of money which will sometimes be accompanied by false threats of collections.
"These fraudulent activities have absolutely no connection to Yellow Pages," states François Ramsay, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs of Yellow Pages. "We encourage businesses to read all correspondence carefully and to contact our Customer Service team directly at 1-877-909-9356 should they wish to verify the legitimacy of any correspondence."
The company also urges anyone who does receive a fraudulent invoice to report these incidents to the Competition Bureau of Canada at 1-800-348-5358 and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. Those who suspect they may be victims of such a scam are encouraged to contact the local chapter of their Better Business Bureau for assistance.
