Remember Andy Capp?
He was a comic strip character drawn by Al Smythe of UK. Misogynistic, alcoholic and pugnacious. The strip wouldn't last a week in any medium now - domestic violence being a frequent activity. (For the record, I never found that part funny even as a kid)
However the odd time he said something of value. Always hiding from the rent and tax men, he once said: "If you owe a few hundred you're a bum. If you owe a few thousand you're a businessman. If you owe a few million you're a tycoon, and if you owe a few billion you're a government. I'm on my way!""
A few weeks ago when we were all talking about 9.9% partnerships I wondered if a group of buyers could be accumulating quietly. I was assured that it couldn't happen without a steep rise in SP. What I meant to say was "What if someone's been doing it all along?"
A government has much deeper pockets than the largest companies (except Apple). So if China and India have obviously made policy decisions to multiply their nuclear power generation capabilities, they conceivably could have started their buying more than a year ago.
Whether or not they, or any companies, have already scooped up that many cheap shares, it's a fantastic thing for us that two separate governments (much bigger fish than companies) are in the market for something we have to offer. As Andy Capp said, "I'm on my way!"
Just looking at Quakes99's images of underground labyrinths, and hearing about groundwater seeping, refrigeration costs etc. is all the reasurance I need that we have something far superior to offer. Multiple potential bidders know it too; no lowball offer will steal it.
