Lord Clanwilliam: Out of Kyrgyzstan "Centerra" disadvantageous
Prime Minister Djoomart Otorbaev 9 April unexpectedly offered seven independent candidates to the Board of Directors of the Canadian company Centerra Gold Inc., thirty-three percent of the shares which has Kyrgyzstan. "Evening Bishkek" was able to contact the Lord Patrick Klanvilyamom who claims to head the new board of directors, and he kindly answered the questions "Vecherka."
- What prompted you to contact with the Kyrgyz government with a proposal to change management "Centerra"?
- I was approached by a group of minority shareholders with a request to protect their interests. We are deeply studied the situation with the company - its market capitalization has fallen by 70% due to the ongoing conflict. But, despite all the difficulties, we saw a good opportunity to peaceful settlement of the crisis. We see that we can achieve this for the benefit of Kyrgyzstan and other minority shareholders.

- Now almost every citizen of Kyrgyzstan is interested in you as a person. Tell us a little about yourself.
- I started my career in the 80s, when he came to work in the US-British company Hanson PLC. The experience that I have gained while useful to me in the future, when I headed the board steelmaker Cleveland Bridge. Currently am on the board of Eurasia Drilling Company, Polyus Gold, as well as the company NMC Healthcare.
- And on what criteria you picked candidates for the Board of Directors "Centerra"? And why do you think that minority shareholders should support them?

- I picked up a great team, which has considerable experience in the largest public companies, knows the specifics of the post-Soviet territory. These candidates are independent, ie. E. Not affiliated with Kyrgyzstan, nor with other shareholders "Centerra". They have an impeccable reputation and high prestige, deeply versed in the management of a public company.
Some candidates - real grandees of the industry. For example, Martin Graham, who for many years was the second man on the London Stock Exchange, and is now involved in the board of major international companies. The results, which Martin has achieved over the years of his career, and invaluable experience which he had acquired, of course, will add confidence and benefit for any company looking to grow and develop.
- Some have criticized the Kyrgyz government for what it does not advance to the Board of Directors "Centerra" of its own citizens. How do you comment on this?
- As far as I know, "Kyrgyzaltyn" put forward two board members in Kyrgyzstan, as in previous years. If Kyrgyzstan put forward independent members of its citizens, it is possible that other shareholders would have serious doubts about their independence. Without false modesty, I note that we have submitted the names can attract the support of a large number of minority shareholders.
- Which option to resolve the situation with "Kumtor" do you see?
- If I am elected to the board of directors "Centerra" I can get more information about the state of affairs, I can see the whole situation on the spot. Kyrgyzstan also has to open their eyes to the affairs of the company. I believe that we need to implement such a settlement option in which will be pleased and the people of Kyrgyzstan, and the minority shareholders.
Minority shareholders are really interested in resolving the situation with Kyrgyzstan, then the company will be able to easily develop further. The current management of the company has not coped with this task.
- And what are your immediate plans?
- I was invited to fly to Kyrgyzstan and to meet with the government, MPs and journalists on April 22. I also plan to visit during the visit and mining companies to gather information related to the problem of "Kumtor" and the general situation in the country.
- How many minority shareholders who wish to change management? And what percentage of these shares have disgruntled shareholders?
- Any minority shareholder - a fund, and such funds are accumulated money ordinary people - teachers, workers and so on. And any ordinary citizen does not want to lose their savings.
- What exactly are unhappy with you and other minorities in the situation with "Kumtor"?
- The current situation in the company is very bad, apparently, takes place, and corruption.
"Evening Bishkek" is ready to provide a place to express their opinions and to those who may not agree with the reasoning of Lord Klanvilyama. Question "Kumtor" too serious to take unilateral decisions.
