GVT Leadership!
GVT Leadership!I am sorry, but I have to vent. An opportunity is being missed here for the PM and Minister Rickford to take a real leadership role in adressing a few major matters. First their indifference to the natives is very concerning. If someone wanted to buy a nickel mine in your backyard, but didn't actively consult you on the matter, you would be pretty ticked as well. I own shares of Noront and I thiink this CEO is the real deal and that he has made huge efforts here. But first and formost this has always been about the crown and the natives and if the PM is not addressing the natives like people first, or partners, when do you really expect the natives to just sit back and play for scraps?.
Meanwhile the drege of flooding evacuations and stratospheric prices of food continues to sky-rocket in the far north in addition to all of the social travesties. With the Truth and Reconcilliation commission coming to fruition this summer, an opportunity for the Federal gvt to work hand in hand on this project could be seen as a meaningful first step. And yet where is the funding for further diaolgues and strategies. Only ministers like Clement and Rickford contradicting their statements of months ago. Unfortunately, they have no interest, because they do not feel they need the north to win the next election.
Natives will have to be equal partners in all of this - which is why the junior minor play is such a good one, as they are not yet greedy enough or large enough as Cliffs etc to go for juggular and be exclusionist and patriarchal.
Now is the time for Harper to lead. I'll give back my $100 a month in tax credit if it means that for the next 80 years we could collectively have 60B floowing into the coffers. Now is the time for visionary leadship, and courageous leadership. A different approach my brothers and sisters!
