Raw materials the Department does not consider that application for exploration permit to extract rubin at Maniitsoq can have significant effects on the environment or social conditions. Therefore, there has been no public consultation.

Since the Department does not consider the application for mining and exploration permit to extract rubin at Maniitsoq can have significant effects on the environment or social conditions, there was no cause for public consultation. Instead, agencies, departments and municipalities are heard in the case. This explains George t. DAS H-Holm from raw material Department.

Mineral company True North Gems got last year by Naalakkersuisut an exploration permit in the vicinity of the former ski resort Apussuit at Maniitsoq.

Exploration licence is provisionally set to last for 5 years.

Grass-roots organizations were not heard

Various agencies, departments and municipalities took part in the hearing. But grass-roots organizations and associations were not heard. Raw materials the Department considers that an investigative activity would not affect other stakeholders significantly.

-If it was instead an investigation, which was of more far-reaching character, so should there be a broader public consultation and approval process, explains George t. DAS H-Holm from raw material Department.

Although the application for exploration permit has been approved by the Minister, the FINANCE COMMITTEE and Qeqqata Kommunia would have a political reading of the case.

Kangerluarsuk fjord used for both for trout fishing and reindeer hunting, like the area has also been used for skiing.

What are the conclusions reached by the political discussion in the Qeqqata Kommunia however has not been possible to get told, neither from the municipality's raw material selection or his coordinator.

No obstacle

Qeqqata Kommunia's own President raw material and infrastructure Committee, Gideon, however, see Lacson no obstacle for the investigation.

-Investigative activities shall be carried out by exclusively using hand force. Arctic blasts will not be carried out. The area is therefore not to be harmed by it, says Gideon Lacasse, who promises to come up with a more detailed statement later.

Department of fisheries and fishing had no comments because the application was for consultation.

On the other hand, writing the Department of health and infrastructure in a consultation response that it has not been possible to make more specific assessments of the possible additional health risks and needs for health control, as exploration activities in Apussuit can result.

In health care consultation responses, says clearly that transport the obligation is limited, since health care is only obliged to carry persons who have permanent residence in Greenland and a doctor ordered transport can only be done to and from places inhabited throughout the year.
