RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Trying to buy a 3D TV
Normally I wouldn't bother responding to the random, altruistic 3d_Guy, who has no connection in the past to SIO, but, a couple key points...

"I love 3D, but it's dead at home. If anyone here went to any major industry trade show recently, you would see that.
for example, at NAB 2 weeks ago, there was not a single 3D display or camera. It was all about HDR, 4K, drones..."
Response - Sure, nobody is pushing 3D. Just like nobody is pushing Dolby or DTS, yet every movie is encoded in it and everyone with a receiver uses it. Just because it is no longer the "next thing" doesn't mean it is dead. The top grossing movies, year after year, continue to be 3D.

"studios like Paramount, Warner and Sony do not make native 3D movies anymore, and spend less than 50% of what they spend 3 years ago on conversion"
Response - The fact they are spending less money on conversations is actually a good thing. While there are still native 3D movies being made, the cost to convert to 3D has come way down, so of course they spend less on that today. And more importantly the quality of 3D conversations today are actually very, very good (if done right). Not like the early conversations that gave 3D a bad name. Take a look at the re-release of Jurasic Park or Titanic as two quick examples. Those "conversions" are better than many natively shot 3D films.

'The new buzz on image is about extended color, contrast (laser projectors) and higher resolution."
Response - Um, ok. Not exactly an argument against 3D, but thanks.

"the 3D tv numbers SIO and other "advocates" push are based on "3D compatible" televisions, not units out there that are functional.
occam's razor: sample 20-30 of your neighbors. Who has a 3D TV, know hows to use it and has used the feature in the last 3 months?"
Response - Ok, there is some truth to that BUT nobody is saying that every single 3D equipped TV will watch 3D. And while I'm not going to knock on 30 of my neighbors' doors, I can tell you that I know many people with 3DTVs at home. Their biggest complaint is lack of content availability. I know several people with Samsung 3DTVs that are frustrated that the only way for them to get 3D content is to buy an overpriced blu ray. And they are further frustrated by the fact that companies like disney are movie toward streaming as their sole distribution of 3D content. Too bad there wasn't a company with a working app, a superior streaming format and quality 3D content. Oh, wait a minute...
