RE:RE:analytics article Rallycat: your observations I believe are well founded. I have been using analytics since the early 90's and follow all the key players. its great stuff and will be used more and more in video. However, when I look at all my sites and the very wide range in users. In all the cameras sold I see maybe 1% making use of any analytic feature beyond recording a person on motion as they come and go from a door etc. This is the market. Cameras in corner or retail stores and office tower lobbies. Again, it sounds really good and it is but extremely small market. If you told me company X was making a quality cam for half the price of AVO, I would say go with that company over AVO with fantastic analytics. they will sell more cameras. simple as that After that you get into speciality. some private exec estates, schools, airports gov building, utilities border etc. Even in Gov buildings, they don't even make use of 1/4 of what they already have. Trust me I see what they use and how they manage their sytems. they simply don't care. most video is for post event action. The level of guards and what is expected out of them is so low, most of what we give them as tools is an utter waste of money 'So some big money in Gov but smaller market. The analytics can be a really nice edge for them to sell cameras to gov and that I believe is now their only true edge over other companies. So if they start making announcements of winning large Gov contracts for border, airport, utility protection, then I would take that as a very good sign. its a great tool but only a select few need it and can afford it.
