LG Explanation from CC
So now we know why earnings disappointed today... While LG officially "launched" on Dec 24, it initially only launched to 6% of existing LG 3DTVs in the US. It wasn't until Feb 9 that it launched to Netcast 3DTVs which brought the total to 63%. Then finally, on March 25, LG launched to the final 34% of 3DTVs.
Therefore there was only just over 2 weeks in the quarter that 3DGO was effectively available to LG, and even then only 63% of TVs.
Finally, marketing efforts couldn't begin until March 25 when 100% of LG 3DTVs were 3DGO-ready.
That explains why Vizio accounted for virtually all of the user increaeses during the quarter.
Routhier also confirmed that Q4 has seen a very significant increase in users and rentals during the current quarter due to LG.
So, to summarize, everything we expected in Q3 will effectively be delayed to Q4. That addresses my initial concerns and with Samsung the future looks bright.
