While 3D TV's seem to be a cool idea for home entertainment there's always been the criticism of not enough content to support the technology. Now, Montreal based SENSIO Technology has entered into the Canadian market with 3DGO! The service has been available in the US since May 2013 on select 3DTVs. According to Sensio, there are currently 14 million 3DTVs in North America.
3DGO! is the world's only dedicated premium 3D video-on-demand service offering the largest selection of high-quality 3D content including Hollywood blockbuster titles and several genres. The application currently has over 100 titles with rights negotiated with film studios including Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Universal. Current titles available include Guardians of the Galaxy, Big Hero 6, Frozen, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Maleficient. The service is streamed through the internet on 3DTV (Panasonic, LG, VIZIO and soon with Samsung) and is based on credit card transaction ordering. No membership or subscription rates makes the service very user friendly.
Different prices are attached to the movies. For example, a new releases are $7.99, documentaries are $4.49 and older titles are $5.99 each. Rental prices are negotiated with the film studios and are about $0.50 to $1.00 more than 2D rentals. Rentals are activated after 5 minutes of viewing and subsequently, the viewer can watch the movie multiple times without additional charges within a 48-hour rental timeframe. However, if the movie has not been viewed for more than 5 minutes, then the title can sit in your 'library' for 30 days.
Special offers will also be included during promotion periods. An example, would be the in anticipation of a new in theatre release (ahem...Star Wars!) you may find a promo on previous titles in the franchise with a discount rental offered.
3DGO! wants to be the number one distributor of all 3D content for home use. They've mentioned that they're currently working on delivering live sports content and other event.
