CIBC only main seller today
CIBC only main seller todayIf you take out sales of CIBC then there were very few other sellers. Basically the damage to the share price was done by one large seller.
CIBC was hitting the bids all day & put lot of pressure on the stock. Most oil stocks sold off & TSX remained under pressure all day. In the last two days because of Alberta elections oil stocks have come under pressure & did not react to the spikes in oil prices.
Usually oil stocks track the price of crude oil. But today HFT were running trading programs which were tracking the TSX index & not the price of oil. At one time during the day WTI was over $62 when the inventories came out but oil stocks kept on dropping with the tsx index. Eventually WTI gave up most of todays big gain.
It seemed the some were selling the stocks because of NDP win.
I am wondering if CIBC sold a long position or was shorting the stock. If he has shorted the stock then he will have to cover it one day.
