RE:RE:RE:Why look that director ?????????????Potash Mining Initiative (Saskatchewan) Sector: Mining Duration: 2013-2015 Investment: $550,000 SPI Partners: Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, Natural Resources Canada Status: Ongoing The mining sector is the largest private employer of Aboriginal people in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Mining Association projects a need for an additional 21,000 new workers by 2021, including 4,000 tradesmen and over 500 engineers. Located entirely on reserve lands, the Muskowekwan potash project includes a proposed 2.5 million tonne-per-year mine with a predicted life span of 50 years. Through an ongoing partnership between Encanto Potash Ltd. and the Muskowekwan First Nation, the mine is expected to be operational by 2017. Since 2013, the Strategic Partnerships Initiative (SPI) has been supporting community engagement, the completion of a skills inventory and a scan of business and procurement opportunities. SPI funding has also provided capacity supports to increase community readiness, and to support partnership development opportunities. Proposed regulations are also being developed under the First Nations Commercial and Industrial Development Act to ensure that environmental, health and safety and other related impacts common to potash mining are effectively managed.
