They are paying the Brent price, which is typically 15- 25% more than the Alberta bitumen. This is costing Canada tens of billons of dollars a year. It doesn't matter if you are right, centre or left wing, those are $$$$ that Canada is wasting down the drain. By buying Saudi oil you are supporting a country that beheads people and won't let women drive cars. If you are OK with that, there is a rubber room at the hospital. Ideologists always have problems dealing with reality.

I saw on the news today that it was recommended that Canada should buy carbon credits from offshore to off set oil consumption and producton and ship even more $billions offshore. It is very lucky that Eastern Canada has such reliable source of oil from Saudi, Libya and Nigeria. Alberta's new premier and her chief of staff are against pipelines and plan to shift Alberta to a low carbon green economy. They want all vehicles that run on gasoline and diesel fuel off the roads and out of cites and will bring in a carbon tax on vehicles, at the pump, on home heating with natural gas and electricity made from coal.
