RE:RE:Last step in SGA/HPA/red-mud/fly ash treatment is the same ?Also don't know what has to be done to customize cyrstal size and structure or how they get from the sga quality to 4n or 5n.

This is the way I look at it.
Crystal size is the result of precisely controlling precipitation out of a solution containing the desired elements/molecules. Precipitation will be provoked by precisely controlling different temperatures and pressures. Crystal growth, and therefore size, will be controlled by the timing/duration at the various temps/press. There is the possibility that size could also be controlled by grinding the final product, but that may risk contamination.
How the crystals are collected is beyond me. Probably by some combination of gravity separation and filtration. I noticed a filter bank in one of the images recently. Silicone sand is the first product as it is not soluble in the acid used. It is filtered out of the "soup" and is a valuable product for injection into the ground ( fracking) for gas and oil production.
The 4N and 5N thing is by a second refining of SGA bought from a supplier, as is the case now, or from ORT's own production. This second refining will require equipment that does not, by itself, add any contaminants such as iron, as did the harper kiln. Taking longer for various steps than in the intial process is probably also part of getting to 5N.
Our beloved RB said that the ORT process was possible by modern computer based process control. The process is no surprise, it is basic chemistry. How to control it on an industrial scale is the trick.
Note that the rare metals and earths will not each come out as pure product. There will be some subsequent refining necessary to separte them from each other.
There, my head is empty. Any and all corrections will be apprciated. Nothing left to precipitate !
