absolutly agree, "that they are irrelevant and and contributed zero value to this company".
But to sit on a BOD for an occasionnel free lunch and directors-fees would be beyond anybodies imagination.

Investors elected new directors and expected to:
- point the company into a new direction
- evaluate the performance and capabilities of the management-team and make adjastments
- help to showcase the company and  products to attract new investors
- pass on their vast experience
- represent the shareholders and create shareholder-value

So, how well did the do in the past three years????
