Why A Conference Call Instead of a Press Release...?

I didn't listen to the Conference Call, but I think Companies usually set up a Conference Call if they are going to take questions from analysts............if you are just making a statement, you just issue a press release and people can read it at their leisure......something odd about getting everyone prepared for a Conference Call that is over in less than 10 minutes........
