Luminate: Cuz the Oil Lobby group and all that it employs in numbers or creates in spinoff economic benefits is crucial and crtical as an election platform...you forget fossil fuels are not just about energy-they are used in road construction-plastics industry-in many many sister industries as a result whereas solar? is just solar-and as of yet not mainstream as an election platform but more wrapped in global climate change and under the sector of renewables and embraced by mostly tree hugger sector still vs front and center on agenda.
Nobody goes to war over access to the Sun's rays for Solar production-they do however go to war and have gone to war (WWII US Naval blockade of Japan as one example that spread beyond regional conflict as we see in the middle east) over oil and its supply and China has been busy buying into Oil and on the clean energy side into Uranium plays and supply the world over-already dominating Solar sector which is much much smaller by comparison.

shawshank, that may be the fact but again I ask about oil--it doesn't need subsidies yet it still gets them why? you know that when you bring this up I will always respond in this manner. if subsidies is such a bad thing why don't you ever comment on oil which doesn't need it at all--or do they and that is why it is constantly being subsidize as well. so if you are point centres around subsidies why not address it fairly? we can say oil survives because of them as well--at least we are benefitting from it because if they were not there oil would be a lot costlier too (so that is my understanding why they are there in response to my own question--same for solar--we will benefit by the ever decreasing costs--oil too was more heavily subsidized otherwise how would it have been shifted from coal? you need to develop the structure etc.--each source at one time or the other needs these considerations otherwise they will not be able to be developed and emerge) but again, it isn't about oil vs solar but rather the best utilization of all our energy sources and the knowledge in how that can be done beneficially for everyone. glta
thanks SS, great post. It deserve the 5 stars I gave you.
