This is an interesting observation. I have not heard much about this. Could you give us more information on what your basis is for this observation? I would agree that dividend payers such as oil stocks and banks have been hit -- but it seems this is mostly due to concerns in the oil patch (directly or indirectly).
This sell off started before the big fall -- and it all seemed to start on the same day. It seems unusual to me that an explanation of general market sentiment (eg. divident stocks out of favor) would all start on one day.
It seems to me that investors are looking for more divident paying stocks, not less (especially because "safe" investiment products are offering very little in terms of investment return.
