RE:RE:Why doesn't 3DGO! Do demos at theatres??Does anyone have knowledge of a marketing campaign occuring in a movie theater lobby?
It sounds like a good idea, but as hedge said, I'm wondering about the payoff. Such an initiative would have significant costs for each day/location, and the proportion of the moviegoing crowd that owns a 3D TV (let alone a compatible one) would be limited, at best. And after you've been gouged by the theaters for movie tickets, 3D glasses markup, popcorn and refreshments, I'm not sure you're in the right mood to head to the store and buy a 3D TV if you don't already own one.
Speaking of gouging and markups, that brings me back to my first question: I don't remember ever seeing someone doing a marketing campaign in a theater lobby. Maybe I'm just not lucky and it actually happens all the time. Maybe it's an untapped market and we're onto something. Maybe it's been tried before and proved to be a waste of time and money. Or maybe theaters are reluctant to let someone walk into their place of business to sell another product to their paying customers - especially when they already have something to sell them, namely at the concession stands. That time you spend watching a free demo is time you won't spend getting that bucket of popcorn and jumbo soft drink. And then there's the fact that 3DGO would basically be offering their customers to see the same movies a few months later for a fraction of the price in the comfort of their own homes...
