There are gold mines in the desert, and a tiny, underground one got permitted, before the drought hit, in the Sierra's (which was a disaster) -- but next to Yosemite? Forget it. A massive battle under way where "greens" are suing everybody - I mentioned they already sued the Forest Service (and won) TWICE. They will not tollerate any new projects in the region.
