Yes, they could have approached other names in the oil sands patch, but they did not. A point that I've not seen made on this board is that SU is an insider at Syncrude and knows about information related to the venture that the market and shareholders do not (i.e. future cost savings and other initiatives). There appears to be a hidden intention on taking over COS and I believe this is not without reason.

Yes there is. It is called Syncrude's Lease 29. Look it up. That is SU's hidden agenda.
