RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:shaping upNot necessarily. Sometimes shorts will wait until a high volume day, such as after earnings, to make their attack.
On a high volume day they can close out their position much faster. With all eyes are on the stock and any news or reaction to earnings they can distort quickly too, and the price may react before people have time to digest or research their info.
That said, it may not play out like that this time. As there has been very little overt distortion pieces put out on CXR, it seems to be a more general play against the sector, but in all likelihood a short piece will focus on debt, or some minor perceived or fabricated discrepancy in earnings.
In a previous stock I was in when there was a short attack, AFSI last November or December I believe. There was an outfit called Gotham Investing that pounced immediately after earnings with a short piece and some quick selling to induce panic. The stock quickly tanked recovered in a couple days. But I have no doubt they were able to cover the bulk if not all of their position on that drop, or at least they should have been able to.
