RE:RE:RE:Musk gives fascinating interview about battery techFrom what I remember Don saying is that synthetic graphite has 2 major hurdles to supply the coming energy storage world and all of the giga factories. First is cost (the intensity of the heat required makes it very expensive and energy intensive) and second is supply.  Currently synthetic is at or close to capacity as are the coke plants that feed them - therefore coke plants would have to install more ovens which are very costly.  To process flake into 99.99% is far less energy intensive or costly and there is almost no supply constraint.
