RE:RE:RE:Share Price
Holders keep hearing about the 'supply glut' and are slowly convinced that oil is going to keep falling. They turn on the TV and hear about a bunch of oil sitting in tankers. Then they hear that oil consumption year over year is up, but 'that could change if demand from China softens!' and they lose confidence in the demand side. They think they know how declines work so they're pretty sure that if demand doesn't increase, supply will decrease at these prices - but then they're told that in the last month supply was actually up, so now they're not sure if supply is going to fall afteral. Even though they thought they understood how things worked, they're finally convinced that oil is going to go to $25 and they hit the sell button on all their oil stocks except Suncor. Fund XYZ sees that support for TBE is low since Mr X just sold his 20,000 shares at market, so they dump whatever it takes to bring the bid down a penny so that the stock shows that it's down 10% that day. Mr Y (some other random person) had no idea what was going on and hasn't checked his portfolio for a month - he sees that TBE is down 10% and he decides he should probably dump it too - he also heard stories about how oil is a bad place to be. Mr Y decides to do the 'smart' thing and buy Company Q that just made a new 52 week high - that's a good investment - thinks Mr Y. He knows it was a good investment, because he heard about how good it was on BNN when he watched last week. Infact, that was right after the clip about how bad oil was. Repeat as necessary until stock hits lows. Fund XYZ watches, waiting to buy at real low prices right before they start telling everyone how TBE is their top pick and the oil recovery gets into full swing in the spring just in time for the summer driving season.
