Respectfully, I think you have that backwards. You grow and net earnings increase, not the other way around. Its about cash in -cash out. What you suggest is that the company is better off paying more cash out as dividends then they are paying less out as interest. On another note. This is the risk with tax loss selling. Anyone that sells is subject to having to wait 30 days to repurchase. If the stock recovers after the selling, you have locked in the losses and either have to find something else to invest in or buy back at a higher price. There aren't many options for something like STB (its not like a pipeline company or bank where there are lots of similar stocks paying similar dividends).
