Danish steel constructions for Greenlandic Ruby mine Construction | 02.12.15 | 08:40- Niels Johan Juel Jensen DS steel structure with headquarters in Hobro will supply the steel construction for the first Ruby mine in Greenland. Greenland is undergoing an exciting development, when it comes to extracting raw materials from the underground. Among other things, there is great potential in the country's rubin instances, and now is the first genuine Ruby mine soon a reality. One of the suppliers for the construction of the new mine is Danish DS steel structure in Hobro. The company must therefore produce the construction to the taskbar, which will transform huge boulders of Red rubies. It tells DS steel structure in a press release. -It's an incredibly complicated task, because we in the steel design must take into account the machines which have already been produced and coming from both China, Germany and United States. It's hard to adapt steel to a production machine, which we do not have at hand, and which at the same time, only has drawings in 2D, explains Tor Hastrup, who is project manager for my project by DS steel construction. Complex calculations DS steel construction to deliver steel structures for the entire taskbar, which counts an optical sorting machine, which separates dirt from the stones, as well as a giant crusher that crushes the rock pieces. Especially the latter requires a special solid construction. -Crusheren inflicts dynamic loads of up to 20 tons on the surrounding structures, and it requires complex calculations of the impact. That is why we have throughout the entire process worked closely with the Canadian construction engineers and even used a totally new calculation module. It is ultimately about security, explains Tor Hastrup. He points to the fact that it is the first time ever, to build a gemstone mine in Greenland, and that therefore there is no previous experience to sit up. A billion potential It is the Canadian firm True North Gems Greenlandic subsidiary, which has acquired exploitation permit to mine sapphires and rubies in Aappaluttoq, also known as "Red Mountain". The company has great expectations for the new mine to be taken into operation this year. -It took ten years, from the time we started investigations, for we in 2014 got the final permission from the Greenlandic self-government. Therefore it is great that this year we can begin to process the first remasse. If others must believe in the potential of Greenland, so it is essential that this project can be used as "proof of concept", explains Bent Olsvig Jensen, who is Managing Director of True North Gems Greenland. The mine has a life expectancy of nine years and will in the period process and sell rubies worth more than 3.1 billion Danish kroner. Thereof is the property of more than one billion Danish kroner the Greenland society in the form of taxes and royalties. Delivery reliability Bent Olsvig Jensen points out that it has been crucial to find a supplier who can provide the requested constructions quickly and accurately. -DS steel structure has been given the task, because they both were sharp on price and delivery time. But their experience in handling complex projects and their insight into the Greenlandic conditions have naturally also been a crucial parameter, he says. He tells that True North Gems already this year expects to implement the first sale of sapphires and rubies, which originates from the many samples, the company has taken from Aappaluttoq through time.
