The Financial Post reports in its Thursday, Dec. 10, edition that after winning about five minutes worth of approval from the environmental movement for capping greenhouse gas emissions in the oil sands, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley is facing the uncomfortable task of deciding which projects get to benefit from her carbon budget. The Post's Claudia Cattaneo writes that despite a show of unity behind her "climate leadership plan," the culmination of negotiations involving Canadian Natural Resources, Suncor Energy, Shell Canada and Cenovus Energy, and four major environmental group, it is becoming increasingly clear that hell will freeze over before the rest of Alberta's oil sands sector lines up behind her with the plan as it is now. Laricina Energy head Glen Schmidt says: "The group of four doesn't speak for the industry. The group of four speaks for themselves. And now we need to get into the heavy lifting of how we are going to manage under the policy position that the government has stated." In addition to Laricina, the unhappy lot includes Imperial Oil and MEG Energy. The cap is so controversial, a debate about how to allocate it is raging behind closed doors within industry associations.
dirty oil producers to be capped and to pay carbon tax as dirty oil producers. Per this NR, MEG are pissed along with the other dirty oil producers, profits to go down down same as the share price down down!!!
