RE:RE:PR
RE:RE:PRI disagree with your assessment that the Tesla ship has sailed. At this point Tesla is using synthetic graphite in their vehicles. Synthetic graphite is a byproduct of oil after it has been refined. Tesla cannot claim to be a green company focusing on the environment if their cars use materials that destroy the environment. The carbon foot print from the process that creates synthetic graphite is huge. Besides, synthetic graphite comes from a product that Elon Musk wants to eliminate, oil.
Tesla has stated many times they want a green product with all the inputs going into it to also be green. At this point they have been forced to use synthetic graphite not from choice but from necessity. As we know, there are no graphite producing companies in North America that produce Coated Spherical Graphite. If Alabama can produce natural coated spherical graphite that performs as well or better than synthetic graphite, is cheaper to produce, and does not have a large carbon footprint than I am positive Tesla will knocking on the door.
