Here's the thing Clarence, you are thinking linear, investor vs the company.
Unfortunately, it's investor vs other investors vs the company. They aren't just looking at the fundamentals of the company, but also what they think other investors will do. If other investors wont touch it, would you? And this leads to everyone doing the same thing, not touching the company until there's a catalyst.
Take an example. Say a certain money manager decided to invest on the basis of fundamentals within the past few months. Are they happy? You have to stop thinking in a general basis and consider that each investor is making an individual decision. You can't deny that the one's who held back to see more information are the one's who made the right decision.
The concept of "jail" is a very real thing. It's also a case of prisoners dilemna.
