"...Terry Salman, founder and CEO of Vancouver-based Salman Partners, said it is deep-pocketed shareholders who are the ones keeping many companies going.

(The money) is coming from existing shareholders and management, said Salman, whose own firm is turning out to be, in part, a victim of the downturn. In December, Salman Partners announced that it will be winding up operations Feb. 16.

My own gut feeling tells me were somewhere near the bottom (of the downturn), Salman said. But it will still be tough for some period after that.

Thats not to say there is no money for developing more advanced mineral discoveries or building mines.

Pretium Resources was the success story of last summer, raising US$540 million to put its Brucejack underground mine project into construction with a scheduled start of production in 2017.
