To compile the total short you would need to pull the daily report for all markets (BATS in addition to NYSE and NASDAQ). Then you would need to establish a historical relationship between the ratio of short volume to total volume and previous short reported positions (so you need to pull a lot more), then use this relationship to estimate how the short volume translates into changes in the total short positions. :)
