I'm a web designer/developer and I have seen these types of letters before. Sometimes the sender is legitimately trying to protect their trademark/copyright and sometimes they are just blowing smoke knowing that there is not much of a legal foundation for their claim. I would suggest that you do something with the domain; such as create a public form with the express purpose of discussing the Veolia Orbite relationship. As long as you moderate the site and, just to be safe, reject the most slanderous/libelous posts you should be good. Just in case you were wondering, I am not accepting new clients so you would have to do the work yourself or get someone else to set-up the site.
