I think you're missing the point. MLBAM owns the NHL right for distribution. However, MLBAM isn't going to throw NHL down the toilet if their technology isn't keeping pace. This only bodes well for NLN for two reasons A) It confirms their fast-streaming technology is far superior to MLBAM (which is what NLN has been saying all along because they don't license parts of the technology but own the whole ecosystem and B) It makes NLN a better acquisition target if it's clear MLBAM's technology isn't up to speed. MLBAM just announced they want to pay for content right - I'm pretty sure they aren't going to do this full steam unless they get the technology right - and one way to do that is buy NLN outright - build a strong technology based - then buy rights. The biggest downer of the Feb 3 launch is simple - MLBAM lost the title as the "best streaming service in town" after they proved they couldn't handle faster streaming sports....
