Kenmore is getting a new SPoT Coffee.

The cafe will open a location at 1 Delaware Road this summer, in the former George Washington Elementary School.

Ellicott Development, which bought the property for $725,000 in 2013, is in the process of renovating the building. SPoT will be located in a new 5,000-square-foot addition being built at the front of the building. That addition will extend the building to the street at the corner of Delaware Avenue and Delaware Road.

SPoT also has a small location within the Dash’s Markets grocery store on Colvin Boulevard in Kenmore.

In addition to SPoT, the mixed-use building on Delaware Road will house 21 luxury apartments and a daycare center, as well as commercial and retail space.

SPoT Coffee has locations on Elmwood Avenue, Hertel Avenue and Delaware Avenue in Buffalo, as well as in Clarence, Orchard Park, Williamsville, Hamburg, Glens Falls, Saratoga Springs and Rochester.

SPoT is owned by Innomarque, a private equity group in Richmond Hill, Ont. Once a locally owned and operated coffee shop, SPoT opened its first location on the corner of Delaware Avenue and Chippewa Street in 1996. In 2004, owners Mike and Sally Morin defaulted on loans and left town. That’s when Innomarque, its largest secured creditor, bought SPoT’s equipment and trademarks and took over its three restaurants in Buffalo and Rochester.

Innomarque tried expanding SPoT into Canada, opening two Toronto locations, but closed them to focus on U.S. operations.

Coffee Culture, another Canadian coffee chain, recently threw in the towel on its Western New York operations. It shuttered locations on Court Street in Batavia, on Sheridan Drive in the Town of Tonawanda and at the Walden Galleria last year. Locations in Ellicottville and Springville remain open, but the company said it would no longer seek further development in the region.
