RE:Major Miner Announcement? Certainty NOT!ha ha...what a hoot, now the Indians fighting with each tribe as to owns the land....packup your bags boys and forget it Quebec’s Cree nations filed a $450 million suit last week in the Superior Court of Ontario in hopes of reclaiming title over a vast tract of land south of James Bay.
Their leaders say they have historical documents that prove the Cree hunted, fished and travelled along the rivers and inlets of the James Bay lowlands long before Canada became a country.
They plan on producing contracts from the Hudson Bay Company and official documents from the Catholic Church to further their argument.
But there’s a snag.
Much of that territory is already being used by two Algonquin nations, which had their rights to the land recognized in Treaty 9 — a 1906 agreement signed between the Crown, the Wahgoshig and Abitibiwinni First Nations.
