I saw some confusion regarding HVU price action today. Contango is part of it (currently a whopping 16%), however the larger reason is HVU holdings are 92% May contracts, which actually fell just over 1% today. Keep in mind the investing.com quote for VIX futures shows them up 1.23% but this is APRIL futures, not May. Only 8% of HVU is holding April futures, hence the net negative move.
Not sure why I'm self-electedly answering these questions so if it's annoying feel free to block me. lol But I'll continue with any questions I see pop up into the next rollover on Tues to address any common "why in the world is HVU doing that" questions through the lifecycle of one full rollover.
