It might not be in talks for takeover at all.... It might just be trying to determine the best method to get shareholder value, and that could mean selling off part of the company which could add support to the shares if shorters are aware they are trying to boost the shares by paying off or paying down debt etc. Not sure what to make of this, but perhaps even if nothing happens shares may not drop back to $30 when trading resumes.
