Is the simple reason the best?

Is the simple reason the best?I've asked myself, why has Tesla not locked up graphite suppliers?

Based on the article below, could it just be that they are in total disarray?

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-05-04/two-tesla-production-chiefs-to-leave-ahead-of-biggest-challenge-yet

Musk is a master marketer, like the one and only Nikola Tesla. For the original Nikola Tesla, the money men of the time came to the point where they could not distinguish between fact or fantasy in the great Nikola Tesla's pitches... They eventually withdrew their funding .... is Musk staring to suffer the same fate? Doubling and tripling car output promises have left the well paid men who have to actualized Musk's promises exasperated ... Hence the exodus?

In all this chaos, the simple things like locking up suppliers become much more difficult.
