Robert Friedlands IVN               First excavation blast marks beginning of underground mine development work at the Kamoa Copper Project Ivanhoe Mines is pleased to share some pictures from the first excavation blast for the twin decline ramps that took place on May 12, 2016, marking the start of the underground mine development at the Kamoa Copper Project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The twin declines, which will provide operational access for underground mining equipment and haulage trucks, are designed to intersect high-grade copper mineralization in Kamoa’s initial mining area at Kansoko Sud in early 2017. Expanded drill program about to begin at Kakula Discovery on the Kamoa Mining Licence Now that the rainy season has ended in the DRC, the Kamoa exploration team has mobilized nine drill rigs to the Kakula Discovery area, approximately five kilometres southwest of the currently defined resources at Kamoa. The goal is to complete approximately 25,000 metres of drilling at Kakula to target flat-lying, thick, shallow, high-grade resources at materially higher grades than the average grades at Kamoa. Ivanhoe Mines’ informational video — Kamoa-Kakula Copper Discovery - The Story Continues — that explains why Kamoa geologists believe the Kakula Discovery has the potential to host a new high-grade mining area at Kamoa.
